1. What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos fibers. It is normally found in either the lining of the lungs (pleural mesothelioma) or the lining of the abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma). Unfortunately, mesothelioma is normally not detected until 15 to 30 years AFTER the exposure to the asbestos fiber. Consequently, one of the initial important steps is to obtain a complete history of the potential events that may have resulted in the exposure.
